Beat That, Whitman's

Well, my Valentine's Day involved a room full of dead cats, violent illness in a subway station bathroom, commemorative glow sticks, men dancing awkwardly while dressed as nuns, silly string, and Rufus Wainwright singing in drag as Judy Garland. Oh, and Mrs. Nator was there, too.

How was yours?

I made pork chops, sauteed pears, and focaccia, with bread pudding souffle for dessert. Earlier, work was the usual mixed bag. On the one hand, I had a patient tell me that I was MUCH nicer than one of my competitors. On the other, I found out I was going to have to give a deposition on a case I wasn't even aware of. I'm not the defendant, but it took about an hour to figure that out.

I'm still waiting for my reward for dinner last night . . .

I was coming down with a cold so the whole day was an uncomfortable blur.

I didn't realize they actually left any of those subway bathrooms unlocked! Good to know, I guess.

Doug - I'll eat at your house any day! Any day I am not violently ill, that is.

Kris - The bathrooms in the Atlantic Ave station are open, but not for the faint of heart. This is why one should always carry tissues and hand sanitizer! Hope you feel better.

I'm concerned about the room full of dead cats.

Why were you in a room full of dead cats? A lab? Dissection day?

Claire - it was lab finals day. We had to identify muscles on dissected cats, so there were about 20-25 pickled cats around the room, filling the air with the smell of death and formaldehyde. Joy!

That was yesterday AND I have no memory. I am living in the moment because of brain surgery gone bad.

Yeah, that's kind of what i figured. FUN!

Oh, and i'm concerned about the violent illness now, too. I just had to get that whole "dead cat" thing out of the way first.

Now? Are you better?

And also, also - i listed to the Rufus does Judy album and liked it a lot more than i thought i would. I mean, i dig Rufus, but the whole Judy Garland thing kind of scared me. Maybe it's just cause i like Rufus so much that he warmed me over.

Watching him sing it in drag? Totally awesome.

Oh, sure, Corn Dog, pull the "brain surgery gone bad" card. I guess you trump my dead cats and violent illness, again. ;o)

Ladies, it was just a temporary spate of gastrointestinal trouble. It could have been due to illness, reaction to the vaccination shot I got the day before, reaction to the dead cats or all of the above. I was fortunate that the subway station bathroom was open, in all its disgusting glory, and let's leave it at that. While not 100% well, I'm much better now, thank you.

Claire - the best part was him slipping in the high heels at the end and being caught by his boyfriend. Priceless!

Well, my V Day consisted of going to a "Sweethearts Ball" with the hubby and the kiddo at her preschool, during which we did such fantabulous group dances as the Cha-Cha Slide and the Hokey Pokey, not to mention Slippery Fish and the Dinosaur Stomp. All this funky dancing was then followed by refreshment in the form of frosting-and-sprinkles laden mini-cupcakes, ginormous heart-shaped cookies (though the more trad heart shape, not the actual heart shape as you saw inside your dead cats) covered with pink sprinkles and teeny-tiny cups of either lukewarm apple juice or lukewarm water.

This was followed by an afternoon of trying to keep the kiddo from literally climbing the walls from the sugar/processed foods high she was on from all the V Day candy her classmates handed out (thanks, classmates' parents. *grumble grumble*)

But at least the kids had to give Valentines out to ALL of the class; I have never quite gotten over the trauma of only getting THREE lousy Valentines in fourth grade. Three out of a class of 30 kids. Yeah, I'm still kinda bitter.

Hubby and I got a sitter for the kiddo and went out to a new-to-us Italian/steak/seafood place for dinner last night as a belated V Day celebration. I'm still full of chicken parm and tiramisu! :D

Hoping you are over all violent illness, 'specially of the gastrointestinal sort!

Heath - sounds like a nice valentine's day, although I think I could handle the classroom stuff for an hour, hour and a half, tops! And I totally agree with you about the cards-for-everybody thing. It seems to be the only fair alternative to just not celebrating it at all in school.

We had cupcakes and cards, too, by the way - really good ones. But that was a surprise for the Mrs. the night before, just to shake things up. ;o)

I had and absolutely fantastic Thai meal (seafood galore!) and two glasses of wine with my best-friend. :) I'm so sorry to hear of the barfing!
I hope you did well on the test. I think I royally f-ed it up even though I knew all of the muscles and should have got a 90% or higher... Stupid me had too much caffeine and sugar and only 2 hours of sleep (sorry if I'm repeating myself).
I had no idea that Rufus did Judy Garland in drag (and had a c.d. of it)! I have a c.d. or two of his stuff from an ex.
It sounds like a delicious way to spend V-day...
